Bare vine stalks that are trimmed and ready for winter.  The stalks a trimmed of the small vines from each season and the main stalk is left in-tact as it will produce new vines each year.  These stalks are very similar to a small tree trunk.  They have a similar bark-like outer surface.  This photo was taken in the Wine Country of Los Olivos, CA
